Breast Implants - More Attractive, Symmetrical Physique

We offer the latest techniques in breast augmentation surgery at the Colorado Springs-based Speirs Clinic for Plastic Surgery. Dr. Speirs will help you choose the right breast implant for you, minimizing the need for secondary operations. Ask him about his special technique that helps to eliminate the guesswork in choosing your implant size.

There are many reasons a woman might choose to have breast implants:

  • To balance breasts that are different sizes
  • To enhance the proportions and contours of the body
  • To reconstruct the breasts after cancer-related surgery

No matter what the reason for your decision to get breast implants at our Colorado Springs facility, you can expect your surgery will result in breasts that are firm, larger, and designed to enhance your individual appearance and personality.

The Breast Augmentation Procedure

Breast augmentation begins with Dr. Speirs making one incision for each implant. Depending on your body type and the desired outcome of the surgery, Dr. Speirs may choose to locate the incisions either near the armpit, in the crease beneath the breast, or around the edge of the areola.

After creating a pocket beneath the chest wall muscle or the breast tissue, Dr. Speirs will place the breast implants in the correct location and suture the incision.

Breast Reduction - Minimizing Problems Caused by Large Breasts

Breast reduction, also known as reduction mammoplasty, can help women suffering from problems due to large breasts. These problems include back and neck pain, skin irritation, skeletal deformities and difficulty performing daily chores. Learn how breast reduction at our Colorado Springs clinic can help women who feel self-conscious about their breasts.

The Breast Reduction Procedure

Each breast reduction procedure is carefully designed by our Colorado Springs plastic surgeon, Dr. Speirs, to meet your individual needs. He carefully determines how much reduction is needed to ensure comfort and the aesthetic look that is right for you.

The most common breast reduction procedure involves the surgeon making an anchor-shaped incision around the areola, or dark area of the nipple. This incision is then extended downward, following the natural curve of the crease beneath the breast. Dr. Speirs removes excess glandular tissue, fat, and skin and adjusts the nipple to its new position.

The skin from each side is pulled down and around the areola, thereby reshaping the breast. The surgeon then stitches the incision, trying at all times to minimize the amount of scarring created. In certain breast reduction procedures, the vertical part of the scar can be eliminated.

It should be noted that smoking before or after surgery increases the visibility of scarring. Stitches are usually removed in one week. A breast reduction is performed in a surgery center, usually requiring an overnight stay. The breast reduction procedure takes between two and three hours and is done under a general anesthetic.

Breast lift - Lifting Sagging Breasts

Our cosmetic surgeon, Dr. Speirs, can lift sagging breasts - and remove stretched skin - with breast lift surgery at our Colorado Springs clinic.

Over time, the breasts lose their firmness due to pregnancy, nursing and the force of gravity. Skin becomes stretched, and the areola may expand. Dr. Speirs can improve these imperfections with one simple procedure - the breast lift, also known as mastopexy. Your breasts will be firmer and more aesthetically pleasing. And you will look and feel your best.

If you wish, Dr. Speirs can combine a breast lift with a breast augmentation; many of our Colorado Springs patients find that this combination provides the aesthetically pleasing appearance that they are looking for.

The Breast Lift Procedure

To perform a breast lift, Dr. Speirs usually needs to create incisions around the areola, a vertical incision from the areola to the breast crease, and a horizontal incision made in the crease beneath the breast. In some instances, it may be possible to eliminate the vertical scar; however, this depends on your individual situation and should be discussed with Dr. Speirs during your consultation with him.

Once the incisions are made, Dr. Speirs removes the excess skin; then he shifts and tightens the remaining tissue into a higher position on the chest. This reshaping of the breast tissue generally does not disturb the sensation of the nipple or the ability to breastfeed.

The breast lift procedure is performed under general anesthesia and takes between two to three hours. After your breast lift, you can leave our Colorado Springs clinic, without staying overnight at a hospital.
